Do you require a more Beauty and healthy vagina?

Many women don’t think twice before buying skin-lightening products. And there’s a good reason why they’re increasing by 10% a year. Ridding your skin of what advertisements portray as unsightly dark spots has become a natural part of your body-care routine.

In recent decades, middle-class women have become increasingly willing to spend their surplus income on their appearance. Along with creams and lotions, more expensive laser treatments are also becoming increasingly popular.

Power or beauty?

Most of these people accept the idea that success and happiness are linked to lighter skin, as most companies advertise.
“It’s a class issue,” says Anjali Monteiro of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. “Beauty is not the issue at all. In all societies, what is considered beautiful is associated with looking strong.”

Obsession with skin colour

Obsession with skin colour has always had a cultural and class dimension. In India, for example, where the caste system has long prevailed, lighter skin meant you weren’t working class and didn’t have to work outside in the blazing sun.

Until recently, the same concept was prevalent in Europe, but it has now become an obsession with getting a tan. In this case, getting a tan shows that you have time to relax in the sun on fun holidays.

Natural and healthy

The quest for skin lightening has now reached the point where women are worried about the colour of their labia. Sexual health forums are filled with questions like: “Is my vagina darker than the rest of my body? Is this a disease or a vaginal infection?”

But the truth is that it is natural and healthy for the skin around the vulva to be darker, says dermatologist Hendry de Vries from the Amsterdam Medical Center.

He explains: “The skin is very thin and elastic, which is why it looks unnaturally dark. If you pull it a little, it will look lighter. But where the skin is folded, of course, it will look darker.”

Beware of creams

“As dermatologists, we have to be very careful when prescribing creams for the genitals, because the skin is very thin and can be easily irritated,” says Dr. De Vries, which is why creams can cause vaginal infections.
It’s also important to note that it’s not just the skin around the vulva that looks dark, but the skin around the penis is also thin and can be stretched to make the penis erect. The discoloration of the penis is similar to that of the vulva.
